How are our precious tax dollars used by our police precincts?

Let us start with the question.  What do our police precincts focus on?  We can now tell from the summons information.  The first point is we appreciate the danger and efforts that all our officers give and endure each day.   It is a difficult task and this article is only to help the public understand where resources and efforts are allocated.

It turns out that "UNLAWFUL CONSUMPTION/POSSESSION OF ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES" is the number one offense that receives a summons over the time period shown.

This means that "UNLAWFUL CONSUMPTION/POSSESSION OF ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES" and "PUBLIC URINATION" and "UNLAWFUL BICYCLE RIDING ON SIDEWALK", etc. are using the time of the our officers.

This is not to say that this is not a good allocation of resources but it is good for the public to know how time is spent in our precious resources such as tax payer funded activities.

WHERE ARE the LARGE SUMMONS HOTSPOTS?

You can see that there are numbers on the map.  Those are locations where a large number of "quality of life" summonses have been found.   But if you zoom in you will see that most of these are police precincts.   This seems to be an error in the reporting.   Somehow it is unlikely that thousands of people are drinking alcohol right in front of our police precincts.   What is more likely is the person is arrested in some location A and arrested and brought to the precinct B but the reported location should be location A and NOT precinct B.   The report becomes meaningless if we report thousands of summonses as located at precinct B.
